Day #3: Wild Eyes - Activity 2

Day #3: Wild Eyes
Activity 2: After your great visit to the Otorohanga bird house it is time to hop back onto the bus and head towards the Hawke’s Bay – your resting place for the evening. Hawke’s Bay is a beautiful region of New Zealand. It is known for its wineries and gorgeous scenery. When you arrive in Napier, the largest city in the region, you go for a walk through Waitangi Regional Park and notice that many of the leaves on the native trees have been damaged. Curious Kiwi tells you that they were damaged by possums, non-native predators, from Australia. People in New Zealand are working hard to trap and kill these predators. Their goal is to remove all of the possums (and other predators) by 2050. Go to the Predator Free 2050 website’ to read more about their work.
On your blog, tell us whether you agree that New Zealand should be predator free. In your opinion, is it right to kill all of the predators (eg. possums) or should we just leave them alone? On your blog tell us what you think and give us, at least, three reasons why you think this way.
Once you have finished your blog post, it is time to relax for the evening. You and your friends have a nice dinner and then head to bed. You are just about to fall asleep when you hear something moving around outside your hotel. It sounds like a large bird. Maybe it’s a Moa…
To learn more about the Moa bird go to the bonus activity for today!

I agree that New Zealand should be predator free and kill all of the predators (possums) because they are ruining the leaves of the trees and damaging nature. The possums and other predators are ruining the beauty of the trees and the nature. We should put an end to it and make sure that the trees are safe and sound.

Day #3: Wild Eyes- Activity 1

Day #3: Wild Eyes

Activity 1: Curious Kiwi, a native New Zealand bird, is your tour guide for today. He is going to take you to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park where many of his aunties and uncles currently live. The bird park is a five hour drive from Dargaville so you hit the road right after breakfast and arrive in Otorohanga at lunch time. As you walk through the birdhouse you learn about the work being done to conserve and protect the native birds of New Zealand. Let’s imagine that you decide to help out by ‘adopting’ a native animal. Visit the Adopt a Critter page on the Otorohanga bird house website to choose one animal to ‘adopt.’ On your blog, tell us the name of the animal that you chose and a little bit about them. What kind of animal are they? What do they eat? Where do they normally live? You can use Google to help you with your research.

If I had to adpot an native animal I would adopt the Kereru.
Kererus are very beautiful.Their body is covered with the colours of a purple colour that looks like fruit burst and dark green.

Kereru is a type of bird.

They eat rats, stoats, cats and possums.

They normally live in New Zealand and are only found in New Zealand and only found in the forest of Northland, the King country, Nelson and the West Coast.

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea- Activity 2

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea
Activity 2: As an island nation, New Zealand is completely surrounded by water. It is the perfect place for people who like to swim or to sail! While in Dargaville, recovering from your busy day of sightseeing, you notice a number sailboats going by. One of the boats is manned by a young German girl named Laura Dekker. At the age of fourteen she sailed around the world the entire world by herself. You can watch a short video clip about her adventures here: Laura Dekker sailing trip.

Let’s imagine that you had the chance to interview Laura while in Dargaville. On your blog post five questions that you would ask her.

1. If you had no boats what would you use to sail on the sea?
2. When you think something dangerous is going to happen and your in the middle of the ocean/sea, what would you do?
3. Who has been there with you helping you to sail and has inspired you to sail?
4. Have you ever been in any accidents lately?
5. When you sail around the world what is the most thing you think about?
Interview with family.
Bonus Activity: When you finish your interview with Laura, you decide to keep on interviewing people. For this activity, your task is to conduct a real interview with an actual member of your family. Please ask them to think about their five (5) favourite things to do in the out-of-doors. They can be things that they enjoy doing on land or in the water. Post the list of outdoor activities on your blog.

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea- Activity 1

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea
Activity 1: After a very busy day of sightseeing you and your group drive from Tane Mahuta to your hotel in Dargaville. When you arrive you decide to sit down and record your thoughts in your travel diary.
Before you start writing, take a minute to read more about Rangitoto island, Karekare beach and Tane Mahuta.  On your blog, tell us which of the three places you most enjoyed visiting and why.

Tane Mahuta- God of the Forest

I was mostly entertained by Tane Mahuta because I got to explore the forest and seeing the living creatures and all the different kinds of species. I get to see nature all around and all the living plants. The Tane Mahuta trees were very magical looking and also it made me feel like I was surrounded by my family - (New Zealand). I saw some native trees that made me want to look at it all day. I wish I could actually visit the Tane Mahuta!

Day 1: 100% PURE New Zealand: Activity 2

Day 1: 100% PURE New Zealand
Activity 2: Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.

1. My first destination would be to visit the Piha Beach.
Reason- I would like to visit Piha Beach because when I watch all the videos about Piha Beach it makes me feel like i'm at Piha Beach with the bright orange sun shining on the sea. The waves of the clear blue sea just makes it's way up to my feet. The sand is soft with a gold/brown colour. Absolutely no one would want to say no to that!

2. My second destination would likely have to be visiting the Rainforest of the Waitakare Ranges.
Reason- I would like to visit the Rainforest of the Waitakare Ranges because if I had to go there I would get to experience a lot of things. Just exploring the rainforest is very entertaining because seeing all the different kinds of species and learning facts about them is just astonishing and entertaining.

3. My third destination would have to be the Base jumping off the New Zealand Sky Tower.
Reason- Not that much people get to do amusing activities everyday and one of those things are base jumping off the New Zealand Sky Tower. Seeing the views when you jump and also getting rid of your
fear. I am one of those people who haven't Base jumped off the New Zealand Sky Tower but if I could then I would so that I can have the most of it in life.

4. My fourth destination would happen to be the Auckland Park Domain.
Reason- Walking inside the Auckland Park Domain will be entertaining, I explore and have fun. My stress, sadness and all just escapes. I have never been to the Auckland Park Domain but one day I would take a trip there and never forget that time.

5.My fourth destination would be the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Reason- I would walk inside the Museum exploring the building and learning new things as I dream about it all day. Though I have never been to an War Memorial Museum but hearing people talk about it makes me want to visit the building. I would like to visit the Auckland War Memorial Museum one day.

MY FLAG I HAVE CHOSEN TO SUBMIT FOR THE NEW ZEALAND FLAG.
For the symbol I have chosen 2 swords to go on the top. I have chosen the sword symbol because I want people to notice that there shouldn't be any fighting or war in New Zealand.

Winter learning journey

Bonus: This year two new sports are being added to the Paralympic Games. They are canoeing and triathlon. In the triathlon the athletes must swim 750 metres, cycle for 20 kilometres, and then run for 5 kilometres. Paralympic athletes may also compete in other sports including archery, boccia, football, judo, powerlifting, rowing, sailing, swimming, sitting volleyball, track cycling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis. To learn more about all of the Paralympic sports, please visit the 2016 Paralympic Games website.

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

The name of my sport is football and in football you have to get a soccer ball to kick and two goal sides to kick the ball to get an goal.

One:There are no hands are aloud in the game only the goal keeper holds it.
Two:In soccer you are not aloud to trip your apponents.
Three:You are not aloud to keep the ball with you for a long track of time.

Winter learning journey

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes. C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paralympic logo Nz.jpg

I would provide lollipops and food for children or I would sell things I do not need.
